There are some SATA controllers that don't use libata, instead they appear as SCSI drivers. These are often hardware RAID controllers.

  • Areca SATA RAID cards - use the arcmsr driver
  • 3Ware SATA RAID cards - use the 3w-xxxx or 3w-9xxx drivers
  • HighPoint RocketRAID 3xxx cards - use the hptiop driver

Also, SAS controllers support SATA devices, but not all use libata.

  • Adaptec 4805SAS RAID card - use the aacraid driver
