sata_sil supports Silicon Image 3112, 3114, and 3512 chips, including OEM rebadges from ATI/AMD and Adaptec.
Early 3112 chips conflict with Seagate Barracuda SATA V (Plus) drives (vendor's first SATA drives) . The workaround for this conflict involves limiting each transaction to 15 sectors, which has a large performance impact.
Some reports of data corruption when paired with NVIDIA chipsets.
slow_down - Enables 15-sector workaround, even if the driver did not automatically enable it. This can occasionally work around other problems, including system problems that manifest themselves by affecting sata_sil.
