What's the source for the information that the ST31000333AS with firmware SD15-SD19 has the NCQ/Cache Flush issue? (albeit less of a problem than on the 1.5TB drives).

I ask, because in an online conversation I just had with a Seagate tech, he flatly denied that there's a problem with the ST31000333AS, and stated that SD15 was the latest firmware for that model anyway.

I've successfully upgraded the firmware on Seagate ES.2s SN05,MA0D -> AN05 using hdparm v9.27 --fwdownload.

ST31000340NS - SN05 -> AN05b -> MA0D -> AN05b

  1. md5sum /root/*.lod

bcfa95895147d2dab3bb5627667d68b9 /root/AN05b.lod a97ad3fa77db8b20b7e14a02a59277e7 /root/MA0D.lod

  1. ls -al /root/*.lod

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1598976 2010-03-31 15:21 /root/AN05b.lod -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1690624 2010-03-31 15:33 /root/MA0D.lod

  1. uname -a

Linux xeon1 2.6.26-2-openvz-amd64 #1 SMP Tue Mar 9 23:10:10 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The AN05b.lod file came from:

http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/disc/download/ES2AN05B-3D4DMoose.iso

I made the MA0D.lod from ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/sas-hdd/DELL_MULTI-DEVICE_A17_R263891.exe by stripping the first 256 bytes off of files/fw/sata/seagate/MOOSE/MA0D.fwh

The drive takes a while to successfully apply the update (15 seconds+).
